A Morning With Darcy Miller
Stepping into Darcy Miller's New York apartment is exquisite--and then you go into the craft room, which makes it all a dream.
Known for her extraordinary work as Editor-at-large of Martha Stewart Weddings, Darcy Miller is not only an editor but a mother of three, an author, and a full-time expert on crafts, party planning, and creativity. She recently published her own book, Celebrate Everything! in which she presents an endless number of ideas for events, anniversaries and those parties that you just plan for fun because, why not?
When brainstorming about content for my re-launch, I knew that moving forward, I wanted to place a larger emphasis on my love for having friends over and entertaining--something that I have come to really enjoy over the years (thanks, mom). Being so, my mom suggested that we go visit Darcy to not only pick her brain about her accomplished career but also to talk party-planning for the summer.
Of course when we said we were coming over, Darcy was more than prepared, from the full breakfast display down to the butterfly hole-punchers that were carefully laid out for us to craft with. In less than an hour, we had filled her craft table with an entire summer spread. Think bottles of sparkling soda decorated with pink and white striped straws, almond cakes with butterfly cut-outs sticking out of them, and individually wrapped packages of pink jelly beans. Okay, so moral of the story here is this: details make a huge difference.
It goes without saying that visiting Darcy was one of those moments that I could re-live over and over again--and I honestly think that an unlimited amount of time would be ideal in order to properly test each one of the hundreds of markers/pens that were lying around :)
I've added some of my favorite photos from our visit above.
